If you are intended to become a physician and decide to join one of the best medical universities in Central Asia, the International Higher School of Medicine is what you are looking for. 

The International Higher School of Medicine as a structural unit of IUK academic consortium was established in 2003. The main foundation for establishment of the school was a strategy of reforming Kyrgyz education system and increasing competitiveness of domestic universities, which resulted in the main emphasis of IHSM administration and faculty being focused on the creation of a modern dynamic educational institution that can provide high quality training and has competitive potentials in the medical education market. The School’s  MD program is ranked among the best in the nation with our teachers, scientists, and physicians being  the leading experts in their fields.

Currently, the International Higher School of Medicine is a modern university with a comprehensive infrastructure, and experienced faculty members that are nationally and some of them worldwide recognized specialists in different areas of medicine, professional health organizations and agencies.

Seventeen years ago the first 13 students were enrolled, whereas at present about 3500 students study in the school. Most of our students are citizens of foreign countries: India, Pakistan, South Korea, USA, Great Britain, Russia, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Japan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Turkey and Syria. This is why the language of instruction is English.

Thus, the main priority for the administration of IHSM is still to continue the enhancement of a modern dynamic educational institution that provides high-quality education and has a competitive potential in the education market. IHSM is the top university of Kyrgyzstan by the National Rating 2019 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyz Republic. 

Although the key to academic success of any faculty members and students is a hard work to ensure the inviolability of main pillars of school’s success, that in fact are  three  basic principles: Equity, Quality, and Transparency reflected in our school Mission and Vision and developed to the IHSM integrity code.

Education Quality Assurance Policy
IHSM objectives as far the education quality assurance:
• ensuring the university's competitiveness in the market of educational and research services through the training of highly qualified graduates;
• maintaining quality management in higher education to the best degree possible;
• formation of effective ISM human resources management system;
• Integration into the global education and research environment.

Main areas and objectives of the policy:
• Continuously study, analyze and use of feedback on the quality of education from students, employers and partners;
• Enhance education and integration of new education technologies;
• Increase the involvement of students in the management of education, including the strengthening of student organizations, their representation in the decision-making activity;
• Improve the infrastructure and equipment of education as well as its tools and inputs;

GRADUATE PROGRAM

We train IHSM students to be highly qualified physicians that is critical for medical practitioners in the XXI century.

The program requires 5 years of study for High School graduates who have 12 years of previous educational experience (mostly for British Commonwealth citizens).

The program launched in Kyrgyzstan includes integrated modules based on the credit hours’ system.

The duration of the studies is 5 years (ten semesters). The instruction, lab work, lectures and examinations are integrated in modules and conducted entirely in English on the basis of the credit hour system. Learning the Russian language (Kyrgyz Republic`s official language) is also mandatory as the program’s language of instruction. This is a must for students to be able to communicate with local people during their practical training.

The first two years of medical school include an overview of basic science courses. The first year is devoted to general understanding of biological, chemical and physical sciences very essential for medical practice. From the second year of study the focus progressively narrows down, channeling the studies towards the biomedical sciences most relevant for practicing physicians.

The teaching from the third year onwards takes place exclusively in clinical settings of university modern facilities including hospitals and involves working with patients admitted for treatment. Clinical studies are, in fact, a check-up of the application of the biomedical sciences mastered during the first two years of medical school.

The last year of medical studies goes by only to cover practical purposes. During the previous year, students work under the direct guidance of the assistants and instructors with high academic positions at the clinics.

Final assessment of knowledge obtained by students after accomplishing their full course of studies is given by the State Commission established by the order of Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic with comprehensive theoretical and practical state examinations. 

After the successful completion of the 5-years of academic studies in the Program of medicine, students are awarded diplomas testifying to their completion of higher medical education. Graduates are conferred the degree of Medical Doctor with the professional specialization in “General Medicine”.  European standard supplements to medical diplomas are issued in English upon graduation.

With an average of 400 applications annually, our review process is focused on assessing each applicant's depth and breadth of proficiency in science, the quantity and quality of their previous achievements, and other unique characteristics.
